In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Blogger in a Strange Land” When was the last time you were out and about, and suddenly thought, “I need to write about this!”?
~
Voices . . .
hundreds of them
all shapes, sizes,
volumes and textures
Disturb my peace
Disquiet my impulse
Perturb my bubble
of inspirationWhat did I expect?
It’s a school theater production
300 seats, standing room only
hordes of relatives
basking in the brilliance
of their progeny
And so we wait . . .
for the house lights to go down
for the stage lights to come up
for the performance to startAnd I,
cloaked in smugness
for remembering
to toss the spiral writing pad
into my purse
as we rushed out the doorREFUSE
to let the voices
of 300 loud, excited
utterly distracting
women, men, children
stop meAnd I write this.
